Jennersville Regional Hospital will embark on a multi-million dollar expansion and renovation project for its 59-bed facility located in Penn Township, officials announced in early October.
“Jennersville Regional Hospital is expanding to better meet the needs of the patients we serve,” says CEO Chuck Davis. “Our expansion not only will accommodate a growing number of patients but also will enhance the patient experience.”
Plans call for an addition of nearly 23,000 square feet plus the renovation of approximately 30,000 square feet of existing space. Groundbreaking is anticipated for spring or early summer of 2010. The new patient unit will feature all private rooms and the existing semi-private rooms will be renovated and converted to single-patient rooms in the final phases of the construction project.
During the last eight years, Jennersville Hospital has experienced significant growth in inpatient admissions and emergency visits. “Rising demand for our services, coupled with a projected population growth of 11 percent in our community by 2011, make this expansion a necessary component of our long-term plan for meeting the healthcare needs of those we serve,” Davis says.
A new lobby and main entrance, which will face West Baltimore Pike, are the focal point of the addition. Offering a convenient drop-off area for patients, the area will have immediate access to Patient Registration for those seeking outpatient services. Other highlights include a larger, more comfortable lobby waiting area, a new building facade, a gift shop and a renovated entranceway to the Surgery Center.
“This project comes at an opportune time when Jennersville Regional Hospital is retooling itself for its community,” says Chief Nursing Officer Sheila Bryson-Eckroade, RN, MEd, NEA-BC. For more than two years, the community-based facility has been implementing processes aimed at enhancing each patient’s experience. “By improving our processes, retaining and hiring only the high-performing employees, and instituting in-depth customer service and management training organization-wide, we’re making a significantly positive impression on our patients, employees and physicians,” says Bryson-Eckroade.
With roots dating back to 1918, Jennersville Regional Hospital first opened in nearby West Grove as The West Grove Community Hospital. Its current location on West Baltimore Pike in Jennersville was built in 1959.
