AARP Driving Class Set
Jennersville Regional Hospital will offer the AARP Driver Safety Program as a two-session course on Saturdays, October 3 and 10 , 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hospital’s Employee Memorial Learning Center, located on the first floor of the Hospital. Taught by a certified trainer, the course will refresh motorists age 50 plus on safe driving practices.
Course material reviews normal changes in vision; hearing and reaction times associated with aging and provides practical techniques to compensate for these changes. Discussion also will focus on how medications may affect driving, how to safely use anti-lock brakes, air-bags and safety belts and how to deal with aggressive drivers. Participants also receive a thorough review of the rules of the road and new traffic laws with an emphasis on defensive driving practices and minimizing distractions while driving.
The informative, easy-to-read course workbook is based on data collected from federal and state agencies, universities and traffic safety organizations. According to AARP, over nine million people have completed the course since its inception in 1979. In the last 3 years, over 2 million people have participated in over 100,000 classes.
Pennsylvania drivers who complete the course are eligible to receive a state-mandated discount of at least 5% on their auto insurance for a three year time period. After which drivers can retake the class to continue receiving the insurance discount.
The cost of the course is $10 per person. Interested individuals must pre-register by calling Diane Ryan, RN, Director of the Jennersville Regional Hospital Emergency Department at 610-869-1324.
