As an expectant mother, you will find our Maternity Care Unit to be a safe, home-like setting ideal for delivering your newborn.

Our quality, access-controlled unit is located on the third floor of the hospital and includes 11 postpartum beds, three private labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) suites equipped with Jacuzzis and spacious enough for you and your family to experience a family-centered birth experience.

The physicians and certified nurse/midwives (CNMs) work closely with our nurses and professional staff to assure a safe and comfortable delivery. After delivery, a pediatrician will perform an initial exam of your infant in your presence, offering an opportunity for a better maternal/child educational process to unfold. During your stay, a postpartum nurse will discuss caring for your newborn, feeding options, and your recovery.

The Maternity Care Unit hosts a new series of Childbirth Education Classes for expectant women and their coaches the first Thursday of every month. Each four-week series focuses on relaxation and breathing techniques, what to expect during labor and delivery, the coach’s role, developing a birth plan, hospital care of the mother and newborn and early parenthood. Classes are guided by Certified Childbirth Educators, who also are experienced registered nurses. Classes are held in Conference Room B, 6 to 8:30 p.m., with the final class including a guided tour of our Maternity Care Unit.

It is recommended that mothers-to-be start attend classes approximately 10 weeks before their anticipated due date. The four-week series is $50.
